Bryce Harper drives the ball deep to left-center his first time up against the Marlins on Sunday. He just misses his 100th home run, but collects his 99th career double. With 15 career triples, he now has 213 extra-base hits playing in his seasonal age 23 year. The record for extra base hits in a career is 1477 by Hank Aaron, so Bryce is about 1/7 toward that record.
The record through age 23 is 342, held by Mel Ott. Bryce will need 60 more EXBH this year to tie for ninth on the list. That’s easily doable for him healthy. Mike Trout, a year older than Bryce, is fourth on the list with 314, tied with Ted Williams.
The Marlins and Nationals are tied at one in the bottom of the first.
