Twice in the bottom of the first inning, Nationals hitters took the ball the other way against the Braves defense to record singles. Michael Taylor led off the inning with a single against the shift, and Wilson Ramos picked up the last hit of the frame with a hit between a wider than usual hole between first and second. Nice to see players taking advantage of what the defense offers.
The Nationals answer the Braves two runs in the top of the inning with three of their own. Two came on a Daniel Murphy homer, his second of the season. He collected seven hits so far this season, four of them for extra bases, and walked five times. He’s off to a great start.
