Cold Week

It was a cold first week in baseball, and this article discusses what the cold weather means for teams, from carrying more equipment to how the players deal with the weather.

But White Sox catcher Alex Avila thinks pitchers may not have that big of advantage in frigid conditions.

”When it’s dry like this and extremely cold, you just have numbness in your fingers. You just lose feel,” Avila said. ”And that’s dangerous at times, because as a pitcher you sometimes don’t know where it’s going.”

In general, offense declines as the weather gets colder, but below freezing, Avila may be right. There were plenty of runs and home runs last week.
