Weekly Look At Offense

Despite the cold and wet weather in a number of places, the majors generated a nice runs per game average. The week ended with MLB teams scoring 8.86 runs per game, compared to 8.34 in the first week of 2015. Home runs accounted for most of the jump, up to 2.28 per game from 1.81 per game in the same period of 2015. Walks rose (6.5 compared to 6.0 per game), strikeouts rose (16.8 compared to 15.7 per game), and non-HR hits fell (14.7 compared to 14.4 per game). All in all, batters reached base more often, 23.99 per game compared o 23.43 in the same period of 2015.

Once again, I’m keeping track of the the weeks in this spreadsheet. Data points will appear in the chart to see how the seasons compare.
