Playoffs Today

The ALCS resumes in New York Monday night with the Astros leading the Yankees two games to none. Charlie Morton takes on CC Sabathia. Morton kept the ball in the park this season, allowing 14 home runs in 14 2/3 innings. He was particularly good on the road, with just two homers allowed in 49 2/3 innings. One of those came at Yankee Stadium, where Morton got the win despite allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings. It’s a very oddly pitched game, as Morton faced 25 batters, struck out 10, walked four, hit a batter, and gave up a home run. The Yankees BABIP for the game was .333 (3 for 9). The home run drove in three runs, and two of the BABIP hits came with men on base. The Yankees are capable of doing a lot of damage with men on base.

Sabathia pitched well in may regards in the 2017 post-season so far. In his two starts at Cleveland, he pitched 9 2/3 innings, striking out 14 and walking just three. He did not allow a home run. He allowed six runs, four earned, so that great three-true outcome line has not kept runs off the board. Sabathia’s ERA was about a run higher at home than on the road this season. I can see both bullpens getting into the game early in this one.

Enjoy!
