A Pitchers Manager

The Mets appear to have settled on Mickey Callaway as their new manager. Callaway was the pitching coach for the Indians:

The Indians led the majors in team ERA this season at 3.30. They have finished in the top 10 each of the past three seasons.

The Mets, despite one of the best collections of young starting pitching talent in the league, finished 28th this season at 5.01. Callaway will be tasked with keeping more of those young pitchers healthy and getting as many of them to pitch like they did in 2015 when the Mets reached the World Series as possible.

There’s more to managing than the pitching staff, but given that he served under Terry Francona, he may have picked up some good practices along the way.

There are indications that Alex Cora will be the next Red Sox manager, but I also hear that Washington is interested, so this may be more up in the air than reported.
