It’s screw the midwest day as game four of the ALCS starts at 5 PM EDT, when most Astros fans are still at work, and game three of the NLCS starts at 9 PM EDT, which should have it ending well after most Cubs fans need to go to bed.
The Astros send Lance McCullers, Jr. against the Yankees and Sonny Gray. McCullers finished the regular season with a strange home run split. He posted great three-true outcome numbers at home, leading to a 3.04 ERA. He posted very good three-true outcome numbers on the road, and posted a 5.14 ERA. He was singled to death on the road. While his BA allowed and OBP allowed were about 40 points higher on the road, his isolated power was lower. It seems like his defense just did not play as well behind him away. Gray’s main post-season problem is walks, having issued 10 in just 16 1/3 innings. In his career during the regular season, he issues about one walk every three innings. If his control is good early, look for him to go further into the game tonight.
The Dodgers send Yu Darvish against the Cubs and Kyle Hendricks. Darvish pitched his first full season since 2013. His strikeout numbers are not as off the chart as they were that season, but he is still well over 9 K per 9 IP. That keeps his hits allowed low. Power against his power works, as he allowed 27 home runs. If the wind is blowing in at Wrigley Field tonight, I suspect that will help Darvish a great deal. Kendricks makes his 10th post-season start, taking a 2.60 ERA into the game. He tends not to go deep in these starts, but of the two times he did one was 7 1/3 shutout innings against the Dodgers last Oct 22nd.
Enjoy!
