The Babe Against the Robins

I just spoke with my father, and he had not realized until he saw the news today that the Red Sox and an earlier version of the Dodgers played in 1916. The Robins, as they were called then, lost to the Red Sox in five games. We started talking about Babe Ruth‘s effectiveness as a pitcher in the World Series, and I noticed his 1916 line was one start, 14 innings, with a win and a complete game. The only run he allowed came on an inside-the-park home run in the first inning. Ruth went 0 for 5 in the game, but his ground out in the third inning tied the game. Those were the only runs until a walk, a sacrifice, and a single by Del Gainer won the game.

Time of the game was 2:32.
