The Astros defeated the Yankees 2-1 on Friday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best of seven ALCS. I could not stay up two nights in a row, so I missed Greg Bird‘s home run in the top of the ninth to break up the shutout, but Ken Giles struck out the other three batters to earn a five-out save.
Dallas Keuchel continued his mastery of the Yankees, and has now pitched 13 scoreless innings against them in the post season. That 13 innings with seven hits allowed, two walks, and 17 strikeouts.
The moral victory for the Yankees came from staying with the Astros. The came was in doubt until the end, and a very close play at the plate was the difference between a loss and a tie. These teams are evenly matched, and game one demonstrated that.
