All You Need is Cash

Via BBTF, Joel Sherman reports the Yankees and Marlins are extremely close to a deal for Giancarlo Stanton:

Moving Starlin Castro makes room for Gleyber Torres. Castro is a good player. He fit better in New York than in Chicago because he wasn’t expected to be the leader and star of the team in New York. He does make mental mistakes, however, and Torres is likely to be a better player long term. I assume that the outfield will be some combination of Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Brett Gardner, with Jacoby Ellsbury moved to another team. Stanton make the Yankees power rather right-handed. The great Yankees teams were full of left-handed power. This group can break that tradition.

The Yankees don’t need to trade away their great prospects due to the money. They are taking a huge financial burden off the Marlins, and the Yankees can afford it, especially if they put a super-team on the field.

I can also see where the Yankees want to win a World Series this decade. The 1980s was the only decade since the 1910s when then the Yankees did not bring home a World Championship. Stanton might give them a dynasty.

Given the way the Stanton rumors have gone so far, I would take this all with a huge grain of salt.
