Shaw ‘Nuff

With the Rockies signing pitcher Bryan Shaw, Let’s Go Tribe discusses the strong feelings among Cleveland fans about the hard working reliever:

Terry Francona once remarked that it would take two men to accomplish the job that Bryan Shaw has done in the Indians bullpen since his arrival in Cleveland. Some fans have said that they wish he would fall into magma, try to climb out, and then be struck by a meteorite immediately upon escaping the magma.

Shaw turns plays 2018 as a 30-year-old, meaning the Indians received his best years and the Rockies are paying for his decline. He led the majors in appearances in three of the last four seasons.

That brings to mind Reds and Red Sox reliever Rob Murphy. From 1987 through 1989, his seasonal age 27-29 years, he appeared in 237 games with a 2.94 ERA. He fell apart in 1990, his age 30 season. He pitched many more innings than Shaw, but Shaw does have an extreme workload. It could be an eventful year for Shaw and the Rockies.
