Yankees Home Runs

Via the Musings Marcels, here are the predictions for Yankees home runs in 2018:

  1. Brett Gardner — 14
  2. Aaron Judge — 36
  3. Gary Sanchez — 30
  4. Giancarlo Stanton — 42
  5. Didi Gregorious — 18
  6. Greg Bird — 13
  7. Chase Headley — 12
  8. Jacoby Ellsbury — 8
  9. Gleyber Torres — 5

The five for Torres is a conservative guess. That’s 178 home runs. The estimates for Bird, Sanchez, and Judge are probably conservative, given their lack of MLB history. It’s possible Gregorius is too conservative as well.

This prediction gives the Yankees 108 home runs from the big three. I can imagine that going as high as 140, with 50 each from Stanton and Judge, and 40 from Sanchez. It’s also quite possible that Stanton and Judge perform an encore of the Roger Maris duel against Mickey Mantle in 1961 and both go for Maris’s single season home run record.

Probably not, however. The Marcels are very good at putting the brakes on exuberance. I suspect the three of them, due to injuries, slumps, and the league adjusting, come much close to the 108 than the 140. Either way, it should be a very good offensive year in the Bronx if the Yankees complete the trade.
