Bouncing Back West

The Mariners traded for Dee Gordon and international slot money. They send three prospects to the Marlins as Miami’s rebuild begins. Gordon will play centerfield for the Mariners, and Seattle can use the money to try to lure Shohei Ohtani.

Seattle also received international slot money from Miami in exchange for minor leaguers Robert Dugger, Nick Neidert and Christopher Torres.

Dugger will play 2018 as a 22-year-old and has great three-true outcome numbers, splitting time as a starter and reliever. Neidert is a year younger, strictly a starter, with very low walk and home run numbers. Torres is a year younger still, and as a middle infielder, did a good job of getting on base. Not bad.

I wonder if this means Miami won’t be trading Giancarlo Stanton, but everyone else. One possible deal I read about included Dee Gordon moving with Stanton. We will see. If the Mariners land Ohtani, they will have quite a different look to their outfield in 2018.
