Small Ball

Two singles put Indians on first and second in the bottom of the third inning of a scoreless game. Francisco Lindor then tries to bunt for a hit, but is credited with a sacrifice when Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel makes a nice play. It pays off when Michael Brantley follows with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Indians lead. I have to question Lindor bunting in that situation. Whether he did it on his own or Terry Francona called for it, Lindor has great power, and could have driven in both runners with a double or better. Instead, the Indians waste an out and walk away with the one run when Jose Ramirez fly out to end the inning. We’ll see if the game is low scoring enough for that one run to make a difference.

Update: Mike Clevinger throws a shutdown inning in the top of the fourth, retiring the side in order. He struck out seven batters so far. All 12 batter who faced Keuchel put the ball in play.
