The Yelich Split

The Brewers hit very well with two out and runners in scoring position in 2018. While their batting average was down slightly from their overall number, their ability to get on base and hit for power went up. With 30 doubles and six triples in that situation, they kept the opportunity to drive in more runs alive.

The six triples stood out, as the team hit 24 for the season. Was this a team-wide phenomenon, or was it concentrated in one player? It was the latter. Christian Yelich creamed the competition in this situation, going 25 for 54 with five doubles and three home runs, plus four triples. He hit seven triples on the season, so most of them came in situations where he could do severe damage to the other team. One out away from getting out of the inning, Yelich dropped the toughest hit on the opposition.

Yelich may win the NL MVP award this week. If so, this particular split will figure large in his outstanding season.
