Writers MVPs

The BBWAA voted Mookie Betts MVP of the American League and Christian Yelich MVP of the National League.

Betts received 28 of the 30 first place votes, the other two going to Mike Trout and J.D. Martinez. The highest ranked pitcher was Blake Snell who placed ninth. Betts won easily, 410 points to 265 for Trout. I continue to be surprised by how poorly Alex Bregman did in the voting.

Yelich missed a unanimous selection by one vote, taking 29 of the 30 ballots. Jacob deGrom received the other first place vote, and finished fifth. Javier Baez was the consensus second place pick, but Nolan Arenado and Freddie Freeman both pulled the most third and fourth place votes.

Congratulations to both Betts and Yelich on outstanding seasons and well deserved awards!
