The Snell of Victory

Blake Snell wins the 2018 AL Cy Young Award:

Blake Snell is the second Tampa Bay Rays pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. David Price won the award in 2012.

Snell’s 180 2/3 innings pitched were the fewest for a Cy Young Award-winning starting pitcher in a full season.

He qualified for the ERA title by 18 innings, so that’s fine. Tom Tango got this one right.

It was a very close vote, as Justin Verlander pulled 154 points to Snell’s 169. Snell received four more first place votes. The two pulled 54 of the 60 first and second place votes.

Congratulations to Snell on a fine season and a well deserved award. It’s funny how the team that pioneered the opener produced the Cy Young winner.
