The What, but Not the Why

All arbitration decisions for first time starting pitchers will be delayed until arbitrators hear all the cases. The story doesn’t say why, but I assume it is so that teams and players will negotiate based only on their ask and bid prices. Every time an arbitration case is decided, it will strengthen the hand of one of the sides. This way, players and teams only know what they believe is the correct value, not what an arbitrator thought.

I would think that knowing the decisions would help both the players and teams decide on the right amount of money quicker. I’ve always felt that more knowledge is better, but I’m not one to try to game a system.
