Wake up Call

I wake up this morning to find that having a great closer might actually be important to winning a World Series. Also, good first basemen appear to be more important than being strong up the middle.

This analysis is based on ranking players based on the regular season, 1 to 30. I have a feeling that there is very little difference between the top 20 closers in baseball; they are all very good, but the ones on a good team get a chance to shine more. It’s like NFL quarterbacks. Put any of them behind a good offensive line, and they are going to do well. (I noticed this when I was a teenager when Craig Morton when from the Giants to the Broncos.) It may be the correlation/causation is backwards.
