A Flyer on Garcia

The Braves sent three players to the Cardinals for Jaime Garcia:

The Cardinals sent lefty Jaime Garcia to Atlanta on Thursday afternoon in exchange for several prospects, including Lenny’s Dykstra’s son and two pitchers. The deal, first reported by ESPN.com, has since been confirmed by The Post-Dispatch.

The Cardinals announced the deal later Thursday evening.

Three prospects the Cardinals acquired were righthanded pitchers John Gant and Chris Ellis and second baseman Luke Dykstra.

Yes, the son of Lenny Dykstra. John Gant appears to be the best of the bunch, but the Braves didn’t give up anyone big to get Garcia. Maybe he bounces back after a high ERA in 2016, but his previous three seasons were injury filled, so the Braves can’t count on him to be an innings eater. This looks like the Braves continuing to stock up on stop gaps until their youngsters are ready.
