Random Player Report

The Random Evil Player program selected Shawn Kelley for the next review. In his nine seasons in the majors, Kelley pitched exclusively in relief. Through 2014, pitching in the AL for the Mariners and the Yankees, he posted a 3.94 ERA. His 10.0 K per 9 IP was excellent, but his walks were a tiny bit high and he allowed a good number of home runs. Pitching in the NL for the Padres and Nationals, he posted two great seasons. Kelley upped his strikeouts while lowering both his walks and home runs allowed.

In 2017, however, found bone chips in his elbow and other injuries which limited him to 26 innings, during which he allowed 12 home runs (out of 29 hits). We will see how the recovery went when spring training arrives. If he can return to his 2015-2016 form, he’ll give the Nationals pen more depth.
