Playoffs Today

The ALDS gets off to a great start with Corey Kluber leading the Indians against the Astros and Justin Verlander. They differ by one, as Verlander made one more start by Kluber pitched one more inning. They were the top two pitchers in the American league in preventing walks in 2018. Game time is 2 PM EDT.

The Rockies and Brewers follow at 4:15 PM EDT with Tyler Anderson taking on Jhoulys Chacin. Anderson allowed the fourth highest home run rate in the majors in 2018. He can’t blame Coors, as he allowed 16 homers at home and 14 homers on the road. Chacin held batters to a .197 BA with runners in scoring position this season.

The Yankees travel to Boston to start their ALDS against the Red Sox. J.A. Happ faces Chris Sale. Happ owns a 1.99 ERA against the Red Sox this season. That includes a game, however, in which he allowed five unearned runs. He did record six walks and 29 strikeouts against Boston in 22 2/3 innings. The Red Sox did not stretch out Sale much after his return from the disabled list. He showed his great power and control in those 12 innings, walking one and striking out 18. The game is scheduled for 7:30 PM EDT.

Finally, Anibal Sanchez leads the Braves against Clayton Kershaw as the Braves try to even their NLDS with the Dodgers. Sanchez dominated in all aspects of the game, holding opponents to a .213/.278/.354 slash line. He was particularly tough against lefties, costing them a platoon advantage. Kershaw faced the Braves once this season, walking none and striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings. He’s not as dominant as he once was, it’s possible to homer off him now, but he is making the transition into past prime very well. The teams play at 9:30 EDT.

Enjoy!
