Playoffs Today

Jake Arrieta trys to help the Cubs even the series as he faces the Indians and Trevor Bauer, aka “The Pinky.”

In this exclusive video, Terry Francona gets Bauer’s thoughts on the game.

Arrieta over the last two post-seasons has not lived up to his regular season excellence. Despite a shutout under his belt, Arrieta’s post season ERA stands at 4.11. Two of this three-true outcomes are excellent, as he struck out 38 and walked five in 30 2/3 innings. The four home runs stand out as a weakness, however. Despite a .274 OBP allowed, three of the four home runs have come with men on base, accounting for half of the RBI against him. He is pitching well in many regards, but the big hits he allowed came at inopportune moments.

Bauer’s one healthy post-season start exhibited the same problems as Arrieta. He walked none and struck out six in 4 2/3 innings against Boston, but allowed two home runs. During the regular season, Bauer tended to give up hits with men on base, as opponents batted .231 with the bases empty, .276 with men on base. His isolated power went up just slightly, as he allowed ten home runs in each situation, but in many fewer at bats. Look for an early entry of the Indians bullpen in this game.

Enjoy!
