The Indians try to even the series with the Astros as Carlos Carrasco takes on Gerrit Cole. I suspect Carrasco is starting instead of Trevor Bauer due Carrasco’s good road ERA, 2.96. He’s good at limiting walks and home runs away. Holding the Astros to singles is as good a way to beat them as any. Cole’s batting average allowed rose from .180 before the All-Star break to .227 after the break despite his K rate staying at a robust 12.4 batters per nine.
The Yankees send Masahiro Tanaka against the Red Sox and David Price as New York tries to gain home field advantage. Tanaka’s line against the Red Sox this season is very odd. He won a game in which he allowed six runs in five innings. He did not win the game in which he allowed just one run, because he couldn’t last five innings. He allowed six home runs overall in 19 innings, and gave up 29 hits despite striking out 18 batters. Price was worse against the Yankees, allowing nine home runs and nine walks in 15 2/3 innings, good for a 10.34 ERA. This could be the nine inning game that goes six hours. especially given Tanaka’s slow work on the mound.
Enjoy!
