Rich Rendon

Add Anthony Rendon to the list of hugh arbitration contracts:

The Washington Nationals avoided arbitration with two star infielders, reaching an $18.8 million deal with Anthony Rendonand a $3,725,000 agreement with Trea Turner.

Rendon was a legitimate MVP candidate the last two seasons. He joins the list of top winners in this year’s settlements. With the Nationals salaries pretty much set for 2019, it looks like they are well over $200 million. If they sign Bryce Harper, they may need to trade someone else to clear salary. If they don’t sign Harper, they still have a really good team with a number of fine players under team control for a while. At this point, it appears to me that letting Harper go gives them a better chance for long-term success, especially if they can keep Rendon long-term.
