The Nationals and Blue Jays reached a deal that should help both teams:
The Nationals accommodated reliever Drew Storen on Friday night, trading him to the American League East champion Blue Jays for outfielder Ben Revere.
The Nationals also will get a player to be named and will send cash to the Blue Jays.
So the Nationals get a player who produced a little under five WAR of the last three years from a player who produced a little over two WAR. Revere should take over for Denard Span offensively, but the Nats will lose of the defensive side. Washington also gets a bit younger. I suspect this takes a little pressure off Michael Taylor, giving him a bit more time to develop.
Storen may or may not be the closer in Toronto, but at least he’ll get a chance to compete for the job. The Blue Jays also get to clear the log-jam in the outfield.
