Aroldis Chapman comes on to pitch the ninth inning against the Giants, and he strikes out the first two batters he faces. The Giants season is up to Brandon Belt. The Cubs lead 6-5.
Update: Belt strikes out as well. The Cubs win the game, the series, and end the Giants even year and elimination game dominance.
What I love right now is that none of the team left in competition won a World Series in the last 20 years. The Blue Jays, with their 1993 win, are the most recent champions.
Once again, managers don’t manage in the late innings like they do in the regular season. If Sergio Romo is the closer, bring him in to start the inning, don’t wait until the team is in trouble.
Congratulations to the Cubs on winning the first leg of the journey to end their 108 year championship drought.
