Watching his Weight

The Pablo Sandoval weight watch is on again as Boston hopes to get some value from the third baseman. The word from Dave Dombrowski is that Sandoval dropped weight and is going well in his recovery from labrum surgery:

Boston has not decided whether Sandoval will be allowed to play in games this winter.

”He’s actually asked if he could play winter ball. We’re not ready to do that yet with him,” Dombrowski said. ”We still think there’s a lot of benefit by him continuing to be in Fort Myers and be down there working with our people.”

That’s a diplomatic way of saying, “We want to keep him where we can monitor his eating habits.” If he goes off to winter ball and gains 20 pounds, the Red Sox would have wasted a year of work.
