Scherzer and the Numbers

The BBWAA gave out their annual awards Saturday night, and Chelsea Janes covered Max Scherzer. This came up during the thank-yous:

He thanked his late brother for introducing him to analytics when they were young, and said seeing the game through numbers helps him maintain consistency.

It really seems to me there are a lot more pitchers using analytics than hitters. It also could be that pitchers get more bang for their buck out of analytics than batters, since pitchers are the active players in an event, and batters are reactive. Maybe that’s why the majors have not hit an average of nine runs per game in a season since 2009.
