Wade Davis walks Daniel Murphy to start the bottom of the eighth with the Cubs leading 9-7. The tying run is at bat in the person of Anthony Rendon.
Update: Rendon gets ahead 3-0. Davis works the count full. Rendon fouls off a pitch, then draws the walk. The Nationals have men on first and second with none out.
Update: Adam Lind pinch hits. He swings at the first pitch and grounds into a 4-6-3 double play. Two down with a man on third.
Update: The home plate umpire gets hit on the face mask for a second time in the game. After a delay, Michael Taylor takes the pitch up the middle for a single and an RBI. The Cubs lead the Nationals 9-8.
Update: Jose Lobaton falls behind 1-2. He singles up the middle to bring up the top of the order. The Nationals have men on first and second with two out. There’s been a lot of two out scoring tonight, it seems.
Update: Trea Turner gets ahead 2-1. There was a throw to first from the catcher, and they are going to look at the replay. Lobaton’s foot might have bounced off the bag.
Update: The call is out. The inning is over.
Update: I’m with Buck Showalter on this play. It should not be an out. The bag should give enough that the foot doesn’t bounce.
