Multiple reports indicate Ron Gardenhire will manage the Tigers:
Gardenhire, who spent this past season as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ bench coach, spent 13 seasons as manager of the Minnesota Twins, leading them to six postseason appearances. He was fired after the 2014 season.
Gardenhire was the manager who didn’t encourage David Ortiz but did get Justin Morneau moving. Here’s my opinion of him from his firing, and I still stand by that.
On the other hand, he is about as different from Brad Ausmus as possible. Maybe that’s what the Tigers need right now.
