Halladay Killed

Roy Halladay died in a plane crash:

Roy Halladay, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who pitched a perfect game and a playoff no-hitter, died Tuesday when his private plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. He was 40.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a news conference that Halladay’s ICON A5 went down around noon off the coast of Florida. The sheriff’s office marine unit responded to the downed plane and found Halladay’s body. No survivors were found.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Halladay was a pilot, like Thurman Munson and Cory Lidle.

Halladay was one of the best pitchers of his generation. At the height of his career, which lasted from 2005 through 2011, he led the majors in ERA at 2.82. He did it with a very low walk and home run rates, despite playing in two good parks for home runs. He completed nearly 25% of his starts in that time frame, a great feat when the complete game was disappearing.

I loved watching him pitch. One of the greats is gone.
