Spare Tire

Mike Trout is working out with a tire to prevent a spare tire. :-)

Over his four full seasons in the majors, Trout owns a .363 BABIP, tied for third in the majors. BABIP for hitters, unlike BABIP against pitchers, is a sign of ability. If you look at the list of high BABIP players, many are power hitters who hit line drives (although some are speedsters who beat out infield hits). Staying strong helps Trout maintain the bat speed needed to keep the ball zooming off his bat.
