Jim Ray Hart Passes

Jim Ray Hart died yesterday, Thursday:

Hart played 11 seasons for the Giants from 1963-73. He also spent parts of two seasons with the New York Yankees before retiring in 1974.

A 1966 All-Star, Hart was a career .278 hitter with 170 home runs and 578 RBIs in 1,125 games.

My thoughts go out of his family and friends.

Hart did a very good job of getting on base and hitting for power, especially in the mid-1960s. He finished his career with a .345 OBP and a .467 slugging percentage. He did peak early, however, his best seasons coming at ages 24 and 25, combining for 12.4 WAR in those two seasons. He remained a good hitter to have coming off the bench.
