Games of the Day

Jackie Bradley, Jr. goes for his 28th game in a row with a hit, which would put him halfway to tying Joe DiMaggio‘s hit streak record. He’ll face the Rockies and Jorge de la Rosa in Boston. De la Rosa strikes out batters at a high rate, but he also owns a .411 BABIP in his 20 1/3 innings pitched. If Bradley can put the bat on the ball, he has a good chance of extending the streak.

Matt Harvey and the Mets try to hang the first loss of the season on Stephen Strasburg as the Mets and Nationals continue their NL East battle. Harvey owns a 5.77 ERA in nine starts despite a high strikeout rate and a low walk rate. When batters are making contact, those balls in plays are going for hits. The BABIP against him is .385, which might suggest he’s been a bit unlucky. His velocities are down across the board, however. I suspect there is an injury involved. Strasburg went through that last season. Since recovering last August, Strasburg is 13-2 with a 2.33 ERA, including 13 straight starts without a loss.

In Chicago, the Indians send 6-0 Josh Tomlin against the White Sox and 9-0 Chris Sale. Tomlin comes in with a 3.56 ERA, having walked just five batters in 43 innings. He gives up power, with 19 of the 39 hits against him going for extra bases. His .262 OBP allowed means that the hits don’t do that much damage. Sale won all nine of his starts thanks to a 1.58 ERA. He prevents batter from both getting on base and hitting for power with a .163/.206/.250 slash line.

Enjoy!
