Games of the Day

It’s undefeated Thursday as a number of pitchers with perfect records take the mound. Jason Hammel gets an early afternoon start against Junior Guerra as the Cubs play the Brewers. Hammel enters the game with a 5-0 record and 1.77 ERA in seven starts. He allowed just one home run this season, helping him hold the opposition to a .319 slugging percentage. Guerra is 2-0 in three starts. The league is hitting just .206 against him, but are 6 for 10 with runners in scoring position, giving Guerra a 4.00 ERA.

Josh Tomlin brings his 5-0 record against Tim Adleman as the Indians and Reds battle in Ohio. Tomlin owns a 3.82 ERA, but the Indians scored five runs or more in five of his six starts. Reds Rookie Adleman struck out 13 in his first 16 IP.

Washington and the Mets finish their series with a great matchup as 6-0 Stephen Strasburg faces 3-5 Matt Harvey. Strasburg is blowing away batters with 65 strikeouts in 55 innings. He is also going deeper in games this year compared to 2014 (his last healthy season), averaging 6 2/3 innings a game. Harvey’s three-true outcomes are fine, but opponents are hitting .311 against him with a .357 OBP. Hitters are squaring him up, with 28% of balls in play against him going for line drives.

Collin McHugh leads the Astros against the White Sox and 8-0 Chris Sale. McHugh’s home runs are up this year. The last two seasons he induced a higher percentage of infield pops than home runs on fly balls, but those percentages switched this year. In addition to no losses, Sale doesn’t even own a no-decision this season. Opponents are batting just .167 against Sale, and it drops to .080 with runners in scoring position.

Enjoy!
