The Giants won their sixth game in a row Tuesday night, beating the Padres 5-1. It is the first game of the streak in which the Giants enjoyed a comfortable lead; they won the other five games by one or two runs in low scoring games. The Giants starting pitchers own this streak. They’ve pitched 43 2/3 of 54 possible innings, including Bumgarner’s complete game gem on Tuesday. They’ve struck out 7.8 per nine, walking just 2.1 per nine, Bumgarner adding 11 K with no walks against the Padres. The only home run against them was the solo shot Matt Kemp hit last night. That all adds up to a 1.44 starters ERA. With that kind of pitching, the offense doesn’t need to do much to win. Thanks to the streak, the Giants are now alone in first place in the very tight NL West.
