No K Cole

Gerrit Cole did something unusual tonight, pitching seven inning with 0 strikeouts. It is his first major league game of any length in which he did not strike out a batter. On June 16 of 2013, he went 5 2/3 innings while striking out one.

Even more impressively, he pitched well while not striking out a batter. He did give up 10 hits and a walk, but the Rockies only run came on a Nolan Arenado home run. The Pirates did turn two double plays behind Cole, and one runner was caught stealing. Nine of the hits were singles. Cole owns a high career K rate, so this game was an extreme outlier for him.

The Pirates lead the Rockies 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
