Games of the Day

The Dodgers call up Julio Urias, a 19-year-old prospect as they start a series against the Mets. Jacob deGrom takes the hill for New York. Urias appear in eight games (seven starts) in AAA this season, and after 41 innings has nothing left to prove. His K/BB/HR rates stand at 9.7/1.8/0.4 per nine innings pitched. He stands 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA. He won’t be 20 years old until the middle of August. deGrom owns a 2.65 ERA at Citi Field this season, thanks to 18 strikeouts in 17 innings. On top of that, Chase Utley gets to feel the wrath of Mets fan for his takeout slide in the playoffs.

Second place teams square off in Cleveland as Baltimore sends Mike Wright against Trevor Bauer. Mike improved all three-true outcomes compared to his rookies year of 2015, but that only improved his ERA from 6.04 to 4.97. I’ll note his FIP improved much more than his ERA. Bauer’s high ERA is due mostly to allowing a .468 slugging percentage with men on base.

Finally, the Twins take on the Mariners with rookie Pat Dean facing the King, Felix Hernandez. Dean is off to a good start. He struck out 12 in 14 innings with five walks, good for a 3.86 ERA. Hernandez walks almost 1.5 more batters per nine this season compare to his career average, but he’s still posting an excellent 2.21 ERA.

Enjoy!
