Attendance Down

MLB attendance was off 1% in 2016 compared to 2015.

Tampa Bay had the lowest home attendance at 1.29 million, and Oakland was 29th at 1.52 million. Cleveland was 28th at 1.59 million despite winning the AL Central for the first time since 2007.

Offense was up 0.45 runs in 2016 compared to the previous year, and there were 701 more home runs hit. That kind of performance usually attracts fans. A team winning again usually attracts fans. It’s going to be interesting to see if the Indians get a bounce next year from appearing in the playoffs, especially if they go deep. This was a team that sold out their park for years in the 1990s, so there are fans out there.
