The Arizona Diamondbacks hire Mike Hazen from the Red Sox to serve as their new general manager:
“We feel very strongly that we have found the ideal candidate to lead our baseball operations,” Arizona managing general partner Ken Kendrick said in a statement. “Mike’s reputation throughout the game is impeccable, and his championship experience gives us great confidence in naming him to this position.”
Hazen is a Princeton graduate, so maybe the Diamondbacks came around to realizing that what works for other teams might work for them.
I’m somewhat interested in why Hazen left the Red Sox. He was GM there for only a year. As a Massachusetts native, one would think the Red Sox would be a dream job. Either he didn’t have enough control in Boston, there was a bit of a purge due to the Red Sox going so quietly in the playoffs, or Arizona just offered him a lot more money. He seemed very happy to stay last year when he got the job.
