Dodgers Win

The Dodgers beat the Nationals 4-3, winning the NLDS three games to two. It was a nail biter to the end, with Clayton Kershaw coming on in relief to get the last two batter of the game with the tying and winning run on base.

This was a great job of managing by Dave Roberts. I thought starting Kershaw in game four was probably the wrong move, but it worked. Roberts threw out the book and brought in his closer, Kenley Jansen in the seventh inning after the Nationals scored two runs to make it a one-run game. He recorded seven outs, but ran out of gas in the ninth as he walked Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth. Kershaw was ready to come in, however, and got Daniel Murphy to pop up. At that point, the only person left for the Nationals was Wilmer Difo, who struck out to end the game.

The Nationals bullpen, which pitched well in the series, broke down in the seventh after Max Scherzer gave up the first run. They gave up three more runs, and that was enough for the Dodgers. A great win by the Dodgers, and another disappointing LDS loss for the Nationals.

The Dodgers travel to Chicago for game one of the NLCS on Saturday.
