Bill James looks at fluke seasons in relation to Bryce Harper‘s 2014 campaign (subscription required). That would be the greatest fluke season of all time, but James believes the right comparison for Harper is Reggie Jackson. Jackson had a great 1969 season, but would have other great seasons later in his career. Right now, the greatest fluke season belongs to Walt Dropo in 1950. Dropo was a seasonal age 27 rookie, so he hit the majors at the top of his game.
