Tied Game

Jose Ramirez doubles leading off the bottom of the second, and Lonnie Chisenhall singles him home to tie the game. Chisenhall is called safe at second, but the call is overturned due to him coming off the base in the Z axis.

As I write this, Ron Darling and Ernie Johnson argue with Cal Ripken about that play. I think it’s a bad call to overturn that play. Players bounce on the base. He didn’t over slide the base, his body bounced a bit. Ripken thinks you should always hold the base, but I really don’t think that’s in the spirit of the rule. Ernie Johnson did a very good job of explaining his position on the issue, and I agree.
