Weekly Look at Offense

For the second week in a row, offense fell a bit, and 2017 is behind 2016 after three week. Games produced 8.42 runs per game so far, compared to 8.54 runs per game after three weeks in 2016. More home runs this season (2.26 per game versus 2.09 per game) are balanced by fewer other hits (13.94 per game versus 14.80), with walks and strikeouts about the same. This seems to reinforce the narrative that players are changing their swings to hit home runs, possibly at the cost of getting on base.

You can see the week to week changes for the last three seasons on this spreadsheet.
