Games of the Day

Grab a late lunch at the local sports bar and catch the 12:37 match-up between Boston and Toronto as Chris Sale takes on Marco Estrada. Sale brought his nasty stuff to the Red Sox, with 29 strikeouts in his first 21 2/3 innings of work. He backs that up with just five walks and one home run allowed. Opponents are hitting just .235 against Estrada with a .316 OBP, but 10 of the 16 hits against him have gone for extra bases.

The Phillies and Mets finish their series with a Aaron Nola taking on Noah Syndergaard. It’s a battle of great three-true outcome pitchers. Nola is near perfect, with 13 strikeouts, two walks, and no home runs allowed in 11 innings this season. Syndergaard is perfect, with 20 K, no walks, and no home runs allowed in 2017.

Finally, a contrast in styles as Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals faces R.A. Dickey and the Braves. This season, Strasburg averages 95.7 MPH on his fastball, 89 MPH on his change up. Dickey throws an 83 MPH fastball, and a 77 MPH knuckleball. Strasburg saw a bit more success this season, mostly due to control. Both pitchers walked five batters, but Strasburg spread his out over 21 innings, while Dickey issued his five in 11 2/3 innings. Also tune in for the battle of the sluggers as Bryce Harper takes on Freddie Freeman. Harper when four for five with a walk Wednesday night, hit two home runs (including a grand slam) and now enjoys a .404/.516/.846 start. Freeman went 2 for 3 with a home run (both now hit six homers on the season), and enjoys an even better slash line of .440/.533/.920. This is Freeman’s age 27 season, the peak of his career, so it’s a perfect time for an MVP performance.

Enjoy!
