Lost in the Broadcast

I was listening to the game between the Cardinals and the Yankees as I drove around this afternoon, and I kept hearing from the Yankees broadcast that it was an unusual, or crazy, game on the defensive side of the Cardinals. It took awhile, however for the why of that to work out, as the Yankees broadcasters seemed to assume you were listening to the whole game.

Eventually I figured out that the Cardinals pitcher walked a ton of batters, but also struck out a ton of batters, eight walks and 17 Ks. Due to the high number of strikeouts, the Yankees only managed five hits, good for three runs. The Yankees also scored on Carlos Martinez‘s wildness (he collected all eight walks) when he threw high to home on a come backer with the runner going on contact. It should have been an easy play at the plate.

That, however, was enough as CC Sabathia found his control. He walked one and struck out six in 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run as the Yankees win 3-2. Sabathia’s ERA now stands at 1.47.
