Leiter on Blisters

Al Leiter just discussed dealing with blisters on the YES broadcast. Leiter had a blister problem early in his career, and solved the problem by protecting the blister when he wasn’t in the game. Whenever he threw, between games, warming up, doing long toss, he would wear a bandage over the blister. The blister would bother him about 60 pitches into a game, so by eliminating all the warm up pitches from irritating his skin, he could get through the game.

The other thing he did was shave down the callous. He said the blister would develop under the callous, and would not heal as well. Good stuff. If you have access to the broadcast on MLB.com, the discussion comes in the bottom of the second inning.
