Old Lindor

The headline of this story piqued my interest: Why Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor is ‘the oldest 23-year-old’. I thought it would be about his playing ability, but it is about his personal maturity. His career .306/.358/.464 slash line is something we might expect from a player in his prime, not someone two seasons short of that. If his early season hitting is any indication, he will improve upon those numbers again.

There is so much to like about Lindor. He is a switch hitter who actually performs as well against lefties as righties. About the only knock against him offensively is his numbers with runners in scoring position, which looks to me like he’s pressing in that situation. On the other hand, he’s great when the game in on the line in close and late situations.

He does all this as a shortstop, and he comes at very little cost. Kudos to the Indians for drafting and developing this type of player. If the Indians stay true to form, a nice long-term deal will happen sooner or later for the star.
