Another Scherzer No-No Post

Max Scherzer just finished five no-hit innings, having walked one batter. He came into the game tied with Jake Arrieta for going deepest into games on average (in terms of number of outs) before allowing a hit (since the start of 2015). For no hitters, the hit is assumed to have occurred after 27 outs.

Pitcher GamesStarted AvgOutsBeforeFirstHit
Jake Arrieta 55 5.11
Max Scherzer 56 5.11
Justin Verlander 43 4.53
Corey Kluber 54 4.41
Trevor Bauer 47 4.38
Madison Bumgarner 56 4.38

Note that his opponent tonight, Trevor Bauer, is tied for fifth. Bauer recorded five outs before allowing his only hit so far. There’s no score as the Nationals bat in the bottom of the fifth.

Update: Scherzer singles with one out in the bottom of the fifth. He now has more hits in the game than the Indians.
